An approach of the community Glauburg and the home - and history-association Glauburg (Registered Association) in cooperation with the regional-exchange for monument-care of Hessian and the archaeological monument-care Wetteraukreis:

Introductory remark

The excavations of the regional-exchange of monument-care of Hessian at the Celtic Prince-home in Glauberg and the sensational findings rescued on that occasion find a very big interest in both the profession and in the regular public. One agrees without exception that the Glauberg and its findings take an outstanding position under Europe's Celtic finding-places.

In the comparison with other Celtic places, the Glauberg distinguishes itself through the link between extensive fortification, a visible mountain-plateau with affiliated, richly equipped graves and a divine area. The prince-statue and further figure rests, discovered in Glauberg are uniquely in the Celtic Europe. As well, no comparable prince-grave with affiliated procession-street could be found until now.

Since the discovery of the prince-grave and other graves, thousands from Germany and the foreign countries have viewed the Glauberg. With different occasions, also a large number of experts always is represented. The little museum, supported by the Home-and-History-Society, will be increased soon. It is in a former school and consists merely of three exhibition rooms. Consequently, account can hardly be taken into the interest of the wide public in detailed information. Furthermore, the opening hours are limited to the weekend-ends through the honorary bearer-ship.

Through the unique link of archaeological culture-monument (fortification), reconstructed prince-mounds and special-museum (Celt-museum), the planned presentation in Glauberg will take an outstanding position in the German museum-landscape. This is a presentation, which becomes just for both the requests of the profession and the interested public.

The total-project means a firm revaluation for the entire Wetteraukreis and the community Glauburg and becomes the tourist trade considerably yielding a return advantage above all of the area. Also it has immense advantages for the economy.

For the total-project of Glauberg, there are four components, which are joined together narrowly:

1.    Archaeological Park Glauberg
2.    Celtic museum
3.    Major Regional Exhibition
4.    Celtic street

The archaeological Park Glauberg

The concepts includes the whole areal oft he Glauberg with:

- pre-historic fortifications
- medieval Cellars and the
- Staufer defense tower

With the archaeological park Glauberg, also the area below the plateau should be grasped. Be among it:

- the re-constructed Prince-Grave
- with parts of the Procession-street
- a outlook platform at the parking lots.

Planned measures:

  1. reconstruction of the prince-grave with parts of procession-street (finished). (Reconstruction of the Prince-Grave with photos)
  2. Erection of an outlook-platform (wood-construction) on the already available parking place with outlook over the reconstructed prince-grave with parts of procession-street (finished).
  3. Creation of a new teaching-path with signposting in three languages (German, English and French). The archaeological teaching-path is combined with a natural history teaching-path.
  4. Restorations of the mediaval cellars Staufer castle.
  5. Growth of a dense, protective turf on the walls (hedge-return-cut and part-clearances) and backup of the view-axes over the Wetterau to the Taunus and to the north via Glauburg to Konradsdorf and Hofgut Leustadt.
  6. Backup and expansion of the semi-dry-lawn-areas on the plateau and the protective walls as well as Renaturation of the pond on the mountain-plateau and part of the prehistoric water reservoir below the mountain (so called Welschlache) for amphibian ponds.
